When a patient has a willing but incompatible donor—often a close family member—a Paired Kidney Exchange (PKE) offers a life-saving alternative. In this program, two or more donor-recipient pairs are matched in such a way that each patient receives a compatible kidney from another pair’s donor. This approach increases the chances of successful transplantation while preserving the spirit of living donation within families.

KP-MTRA has formally initiated the Paired Kidney Exchange Program and communicated detailed guidelines to all licensed transplant hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for implementation and compliance. This initiative reflects our commitment to expanding access to ethical, regulated transplantation and addressing the growing demand for organs through innovative and patient-centered solutions. The PKE/SWAP program is a vital step in ensuring no patient is left behind due to incompatibility barriers within their family.
